Current Projects

I have completed a book manuscript on US-China rivalry, coauthored with Professor Richard Ned Lebow, one of the foremost authorities on international relations today. This book explains the deepening competition between China and the US since the Obama years and develops a framework for competition management and conflict resolution between the two countries.

My next book project is Chinese grand strategy under Xi Jinping. This is a return to the theme of Chinese grand strategy that I first explored in my 2015 book on Chinese hegemony in East Asian history.

I am also working on papers related to two separate areas of research: Chinese policy toward the South China Sea and Chinese theory of international relations. I hope these will evolve into books in the future too.
